Today in 1817 CSA Brig. Gen. Richard Brooke Garnett was born. He would have been 197 years old today. They guy had a very "colorful" military career in that he was a small red blotch on the rears of Stonewall Jackson in particular and Robert E. Lee. I liken him to *Custer* in that he was extremely concerned with his personal reputation.

During the 3rd battle of Gettysburg in 1863, Garnett no longer had to worry about a possible courts martial incited by S. Jackson or his reputation. He was killed in battle. http://www.encyclopediavirginia.org/Garnett_Richard_B_1817-1863

I get sad every time I think of Dick Garnett's fate at Gettysburg and stand on the spot where he most likely fell. He is presumed KIA but was never identified. His horse was seen riderless after the Pickett-Pettigrew-Trimble Charge.

He *may* have buried in a mass grave and later moved with the other Confederates, unknown identities, to Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond where he has a marker, but that is not a proven fact. :(

No theories on why those doing the "gathering" of bodies didn't recognize him as a General and identify him. My own theory is that he may have been stripped of his uniform and that is just so sad.
