I want to start a thread on the top 5 worst tanks. So I want to know what you all think on this. I think the Sherman is a candidate? And the Stuart, do not say I don"t like anything American like they said on another website, I love our infantry weapons.:hungry: :lalala: I have a few others.

Probably best if you list the ones you're thinking of WH to push the discussion on. I know very little about tanks, can identify a few, so will not be commenting.

Well usualy I ask questions when I either want to know what people think on this, or I want to know something on that subject. I lock the info into my brain and when I do not know something I just remember it.:common001::fishing:

Well I do things the opposite to you .... because I like to learn about things ... read all I can about it ... then ask questions .... because then I don't feel and look like I'm a dufuss and plus I'm able to have a discussion about the things I've already learned !

The British Valentine was one with no good points - it is said that when we sent some to Russia on Lend-Lease, they couldn't believe that we used them for anything other than training.

To be honest, the tanks were not Britain's strong point in WW2. They were either slow, or lightly-armoured, or (as in the case of the Valentine) both.

The whole class of tank knows as the tankette were found to be slightly better than worthless in the "new" war. The French and Italians had a bunch of them.

On the other end of the spectrum, the 207-ton Panzer VIII Maus, while a fascinating piece of hardware, can hardly be considered a successful design.

The worst? Lets us be honest here. You cannot expect 10-20years old tech to compete with latest tech. Majority of armored vehicles used by Japan or Italy were created in 30's, hardly a match to the then modern models. You should not be so judgemental on Sherman-Stuart. Those tanks were usable to effective on battlefields, one good example is the russian guards battalion that used exclusively the Sherman's received trough lend-lease. Having studied several russian sources in the matter they kept emphasizing the ease of maintenance of American tanks on field.

Curious fact on the matter is that Sherman Tank was both easier to maintain and less loud than the so much praised T-34. I would also not rate Valentine as a bad tank. Though slow and undergunned in was a force to be reckoned within battlefields of North Africa where the anti-air 88's were pressed to anti-tank duty since smaller 37mm PAK, was unable to pierce its armor. This despite the fact that Valentine was a design with considerable age at the time.

The mission to name a worst tank takes a lot less easy form as you take into account all other factors of the time. That having said i must agree with GearZ on naming Maus as possible the worst. This opinion i voice mainly because of the fact that best Tank is always the marriage of three aspects Speed-Manouverability-Firepower. Lack in any of those and Tank is sure to perform less than expected.

I think the way tanks are used is more important than the tanks themselves. For example, in the invasion of France in 1940, a startling number of the tanks the Germans were using were the mark 2, which was even then obsolete.
