Hi everyone Another newby here, probably asking the same old question everyone has asked so I apologise for this! I have recently researched in some depth , the service record for my Grandfather in WW2 and I have created a fairly substantial War Diary that my family love to read. As I knew my Grandfather and was 22 when he died, he was able to tell me the details, but now I am trying to obtain details on my great Grandfather who initially joined the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade in 1890, was wounded in 1900 at Boschmans Kraal, then left the Army after 12 years service and joined again in 1914 into the Oxfords & Bucks. I know very little about his service in WW1, but I do have one of his medals that has his initials S Mason and SPR RE which I'm assuming is Sapper in Royal Engineers ? My late Father lived with him before my great grandfather died in 1940 and he used to tell me Dad about how he carried off the Somme on a kitchen table ! I have written to the Army Records place in Glasgow to try and obtain his service record but reading other posts on here and some information seems more readily available ?? His name was Charles Stephen Mason, he lived at 10 Conderton Road, Camberwell, London, SE5. Yours in hope.. Ali Mason
I think the Army records in Glasgow were sealed and not released to the public. Correct me if I am wrong in this, but I don't know what happened to those records. I am very sorry.
