I've been seeing a lot of war movies and I don't know how accurate they are but a lot of the clothing the British and American soldiers wore seems very practical for the field. I don't know too much about what the German soldiers wore in battle. Who had the best clothing for the cold European theater and can you describe the type of clothing they were assigned?

Well,as far as my knowledge goes,Uniform,insignia,shoulder-straps,badges etc.,etc varies from discipline to discipline, state to state ,eventually sometimes depend upon the condition of terrain or geographical location of the front, what are not uses in general. Even you may consider it as a separate Subject but attached to War-Office.

There are separate offices/departments etc, to determine this[color/material/design of the Uniform] because it has some long variations[ie.,Army :: infantry/artillery/cavalry etc...all they maintain/wore different colors/materials etc.]I heard that some time these depts. have effort to copy enemy-uniforms to use as a part of strategy .I think its hard enough to determine a best uniform, from the huge numbers of different Uniforms been used in War 2.

You my visit this site to get some information ...

I personally keeps same interests on this but of old days...say for Roman/Greek/Persian etc, etc....for how was their types and try to understand why they chose the same ...any way

    Thnx .....

I guess that's because they were used to the cold weather? I will research the kinds of clothing that they wore. My friend was pointing out the jackets that have fleece on the inside would have been very warm even when wet. That's what got me thinking about this.

Thank you for the links, Diptangshu - I will look into those websites! I like ancient history, too. So, I will check out the ancient warriors clothing, as well. I am interested in when movies get something correct, historically!
