I've always wondered if it were indeed correct to call the Civil War by that title? I've also heard it referred to as "The American Conflict." Which is more correct? What are others' thoughts along these lines?

Calling it the American conflict isn't exactly specific though. There were also many other conflicts within America during the 1800s such as westward expansion and encounters with the Native Americans. To call it the Civil War would clarify it as there was only one possible civil war that you could refer to during this time.
