We have several locations of a chain called Half Price Books here in Columbus. They sell a combination of used books and remainders. you can really get some good stuff there if you're willing to go and check on a fairly regular basis. We hadn't been there in a while, and my friend Greg Biggs, who was in town, really wanted to go.

We made a trip there this afternoon, and it was a VERY productive visit. I bought six books on the Revolutionary War.

First, I got a hard cover copy of Terry Golway's Washington's General: Nathanael Greene and the Triumph of the American Revolution, which hs been uniformly well received. I'd been looking for an inexpensive copy of it for a long time, and was very pleased to find a brand new hard cover for $7.99.

Then, I bought five books in the Praeger Illustrated Military History Series. All five are hardcover books, and all were issued at $35.00 when first published. I bought:

Brendan Morrissey's Saratoga 1777: Turning Point of a Revolution, his Yorktown 1781: The World Turned Upside Down, his Quebec 1775: The American invasion of Canada, his Boston 1775: The Shot Heard Around the World, and Angus Konstam's Guilford Courthouse 1781: Lord Cornwallis's Ruinous Victory. These books feature lots of good color illustrations, including full color troop movement maps. I paid $6 for each of these. In other words, I bought five of them for less than I would have paid for one of them new.

I bought six brand new books for $42. Not too shabby, eh?

I've read Terry Galway's book on Greene. Some of Greene's letters home to Caty are a hoot!

Greene missed his wife a lot. When you read the book it's pretty obvious what those two were up to when she visited him during winter encampments. :D  I believe she went home pregnant after each encampment.  ;)

    Eric:

Which Half Price Book store? And did they have any more copies of Angus Konstam's Guilford Courthouse 1781?

    Please give Greg my best.

You will enjoy Terry Galway's book on Greene . I found the book very interesting and a quick read . He was interesting person and very ambitious while not thinking about his wife . Guess she was quite a flirt around camp . Yes, Linda you can count how many times she visited camp .

Your other selections sound most intersting a "steal" .
