There's a terrific book store here in Columbus that features close-outs and remainders. It means that it's possible to get really good books at a very siginificant discount. Every couple of months, I like to go there just to see what's new on the shelves. Susan and I made one of our regular visits to the store today. We bought four books for $30, including tax. It's pretty hard to argue with that.

What makes it significant from my perspective is that I picked up two good Revolutionary War books today for $13.50. I got a hard-cover edition of The Battle for New York: The City at the Heart of the American Revolution by Barnet Schecter for $8.98 (it was $30 new when it was published in 2002) and a softcover copy of The Long Fuse: How England Lost the American Colonies, 1760-1785 for $4.98. The softcover edition was $15.00 brand new.

I think I did pretty well. Has anybody read either of these, and can anybody give me some feedback on them? Thanks.

The best thing about the visit today was that they did not have a single one of my books there. Considering that the entire inventory consists of remainders, it's always gratifying NOT to find one of my titles there, as it means nothing of mine has been remaindered lately. ;)

Let me know how you like the Battle of New York book. I thought about buying it last time I was in Linworth. I see where your friend Ted Savas co-authored "Guide to the Battles of the American Revolution." Do you know anything about this one?

I have "The Long Fuse". It is a good book, covers most of the issues which added fuel to the fire. Thanks for the reminder, I need to reread it. There is a great short speech made in "P" by a Col who fought at Plains of Abraham which says a lot.
