Does anybody know if the records for the London Irish Regiment were destroyed of if they are still available to obtain.
My uncle Charles Douglas Nolan of the 18th Battalion of the London Irish Regiment was killed in France on 24/8/1918 and I would like to send for his service record but do not know if it would still be available.

    Hello Angela,

If his service record has survived, it will be on Ancestry. I don't subscribe myself, but from a quick search, unless it has been mis-transcribed, I would say no. There are entries for his medal index card, Soldiers Died in the Great War and Ireland, Casualties of the Great War, but that's about it.

Thanks for your reply. I subscribe to ancestry and therefore have all the stuff they have on offer but I would like to obtain a copy of his actual service record to find out more about his time in the army

    Angela,

I'm afraid that only an estimated 30% of service records from the period survived. They were subjected to systematic weeding and a major fire at the building where they were deposited during WW2.
