    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Lawson, Thomas Mattocks played for England

    Internationals: 2 : 1928 NSW + W+

    Thomas Lawson was born in 1900 in Cockermouth

    Played as a Flanker for: St Bee’s School, Workington, Cumberland

    Profession: Sales director/brass foundry co chairman of Ogden and Lawson’s brass foundry, Workington.

    War service: Served in Western Command(?)

    Remarks: Brother of Richard Lawson (1 cap). 50 appearances for Cumberland. Welterweight boxing champion of Western Command during the War.

    He died on 21 October 1951, in Workington
