Sojourn in Silesia My daughter and I retyped the book last year after Dad died, aged nearly 95. She published it, as the original publishers had lost the hard copy! I also do a blog of Dad's letters home from his prison camp in Upper Silesia. Letters from Stalag VIIIB We (my daughter and I) are obviously very proud of Dad and are really happy that he left an account of his interment. Many war heroes were understandably unable to talk about/ relive their experiences during the war. We are grateful he was able to, even though he was in his 80's before he felt able to put pen to paper (actually he used a word processor as I recall). So, thanks for looking. Hi Kathy, We don't usually like people advertising on their first post but we always make an exception when its a first hand account of a period of a persons war experiences. It will be a valuable resource to some historians who are researching other POW's from the same camp. You should be very proud of your father, a brave man who went to war and would of given his all had it come down to it so people like you and i can be free. God bless him Sniper

I posted the above on another forum, and was recommended to read a book called The Lost Highlander, by Alistair Urquart (it was his niece who recommended me). Alistair was taken prisoner by the Japanese, and I have just finished reading his book. I am about to write a review on Amazon, yet any words I write will not do justice to this book or his suffering. I read the book with horror, sadness and rage. I also feel awful to be thinking that compared to Alistair's experience, my Dad's experience seems like a walk in the park. Of course, it wasn't, but my Dad appeared to hang on to his dignity, and was not treated as sub-human. Anyway, thanks to all who downloaded the free Kindle version of Dad's book, I hope you have enjoyed it.
