On 16th May a new memorial to Sqn Ldr Patrick Gifford was unveiled in Castle Douglas. He shot down the first German plane of WW2 over mainland UK in his spitfire. Yesterday I attended the unveiling of a memorial to the Hamilton family and 2 RAF crew who died when a Beaufighter crashed on a house in 1944.
