On 16th May a new memorial to Sqn Ldr Patrick Gifford was unveiled in Castle Douglas. He shot down the first German plane of WW2 over mainland UK in his spitfire.

These photos were taken at the unveiling ceremony.

Yesterday I attended the unveiling of a memorial to the Hamilton family and 2 RAF crew who died when a Beaufighter crashed on a house in 1944.

The lady in the blue jacket was the only one of the Hamilton family who survived when the plane crashed on the house.
