Looks like Davey doesn't it. - Would love to see people put the Country they are from as it would help if you need to know something about their servicemen from that area.

If a person is from USA you could ask him question ie what sort of weapons they are using, what is their rate of pay - those sort of things.
Is it a bad idea ???

Riding on the side of the Schwimmwagen was a bit tiring, standing on a rock turned to bronze felt more age appropriate. Fess parker ala Danel Boone? Nope, Captain John Parker ala "Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here"

The Viking blood dies hard. Hope all is well in OZ...Cheers P

    Hi Keith
Another gunner eh! I did my NS in the Royal Artillery, 3.7 ack ack. We were stationed at Bulford on Salisbury Plain. We were also sent to Bristol Docks during the 1949 dock strike, we spent two weeks unloading ships. The local folk used to stand at the dock gates and hand us bottles of beer and fags. One day the commies were at the gates jeering at us and the locals set about them, boy! did the blood flow!!! As you know from my threads, I was a glutton for punishment and as you read from my posts, I was in the RAF three months after demob. There is a difference, the RAF treat you as a person and the army, anything but!

    Hi John,
    Seven mile sniper !
I can say that I have fired nearly every size from .22 to Honest John, no pun intended.
You forgot the RAMC - CMAR, can't manage a rifle jibe.
Funny how these taunts were forgotten when we were needed !
Nice to hear from you, hope everthing is fine with you.
My wife has the decoritus bud, so have been quite busy lately.

Hiya Keith; Mate down here in the land of OZ the Infantry call the Arty "Nine Mile Snipers". It is a compliment as the infantry knew just how good the gunners are. I don't know if it's still in current use, once upon a time it was in wide use I guess especially, back in the 1940s through to 1970's when they worked closely together under war conditions for many years.

    Hi Cobber,
Just a little gentle wind up to John, having reached the exalted height of Range Safety Officer, every gun is checked before giving the OK to fire, so very little goes wrong, and when we have to fire ranging shots the Forward Observation Officer homes the guns in on target, with orders of, Up, Down Left or Right 100 or 200.
A lot of satisfaction is got from the cry "Target Round".
Nice to find the forum is becoming more active, but still can't see all attachments.
You can't have everything running smooth, as dictated by Sods Law.
    :peace:
