    Hi All,

Now i have re-started the project The Commonwealth Roll of Honour i really need everyone's help from the forum. I need volunteers in all areas to go around their local areas and take photos of the war graves.
As i have said and proved all photos will be available to the public for FREE, no charge unlike other similar projects that are out there. Anyone wising to help please PM me with your email address so that i can send you the details of how you can be a huge help to this project. I also require someone with some knowledge of the programme Excel, to help me with some data splitting so any volunteers again please PM me. This is a boring job so please only volunteer if you are willing to be bored.

    Thanks for any help
    Mike (Sniper)

    Hi Lee,

Got your email and will give it some thought on how to progress. On the Excel side of things i have a data splitting programme but it doesn't work for all the spreadsheets so everything has to be split by hand and is very tedious and slow.
It was so long ago that we talked about getting this site up and running that i have forgotten what we had planned, (bloody old age creeping up). Will get back to you over the weekend and see if i can come up with what i want on the site.

    Thanks Lee.

ok, email me a couple of the spreadsheets your having trouble with if you like and I will take a look at it. What may be best is that we import them to an acess database which makes the seperating of all the fields very easy.

    Hi Mike.

What are you attempting to do with your info?

My spreadsheet is 11,000+ and can be sorted by name, cemetery, county, date etc. and any part of it copy and pasted.

    Cheers

    Geoff

    Hi

I have set myself the task of photographing all the war graves (and any others with military inscriptions) in Dumfries and Galloway and am over half way through with what I have done posted at The Scottish War Graves Project :: Index. You are welcome to help yourself to any of my photos (posted under the name 'spoons') for any purpose just as long as it is not for profit. If you want higher res photos, just let me know.

Just off now to get a few stragglers.

    Hi Paul.

I don't charge for any photos that this project provides. I have provided over 300 photos to researchers and family historians so far and will never charge for any. I have been offered money before which i have always said no to or if it just arrived i sent it on to a forces charity.

Thankyou very much for the offer and i will take you up on the offer as soon as i have the time to go and download the photos i will do. Of course you will be credited with taking the photos should i get any requests for them and also on the website once its built.

    Cheers
    Mike
