Below is a link to a site listing some 3,500 allied servicemen (and three women) who escaped from enemy occupied territories during the Second World War and returned to the UK. ELMS Escaper List
Kyt didn't you publish a similar list some while back? The Father of a very good friend of ours was on that list but not not on this.
How did the women get caught by the emeny? I did not know that women frought on the front line. They must have been turched by the emeny before they escape?:cc_hang:mg:
I don't think that the women were in the front line as such. There were lots of nurses (read some of Spidge's posts about some Australian heroines) and some in Special Ops who were captured. The first name that springs to mind is Violet Szabo whose story was told in "Carve Her Name with Pride" but I'm sure that the other members will be able to name many more.
A new book by the author of Footprints on the Sands of Time: RAF Bomber Command Prisoners of War in Germany 1939-45 (which David may know) RAF Evaders: The Complete Story of RAF Escapees and Their Escape Lines, Western Europe, 1940-1945: Oliver Clutton-Brock: Amazon.co.uk: Books It's quite a tome, and lists all RAF evaders in the second half of the book. The first half is a narrative with many of the stories of those listed in the latter part. I would highly recommend it
Is this person listed Kyt? F.O. D.A.TRETMAN Just bought the book US$42.00 to include shipping, good buy!
