Lancaster wreck - Plymouth Breakwater

    That is very interesting. My grandmother remembered seeing a plane (a fighter - she said it was German but I am a bit doubtful) crash into Plymouth Sound when she was on the Hoe during the war.

    I know there are a couple of confirmed crashes in the area, but I wasn't aware of this one. There are also quite a few ships that were torpedoed when coming into port, like the James Egan Lane which sank in Whitsand Bay when being towed into Plymouth.

    Isn't it annoying when they don't give serial or names of the crew?!

    Lancaster ED450 (EA-G)

    Took off1859 from Fiskerton. Collided with barrage ballon cables on the return from Lorient and crashed into the sea off Plymouth, Devon. All are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

    I still find those underwater shots eerie. (A bit like a time capsule)
