A collector in Queensland, who already owns some Avengers and a Boston that is in America having some serious work done to it to return it to flying condition, has apparently just bought a Hudson Mk III. It's been converted to an executive transport. While the new owner plans to keep the executive fitout inside, he's planning on externally restoring the aircraft to original condition and finishing her in Coastal Command colours. How cool is that? Imagine the sight of two Hudsons flying together?!
Have been trying to work out which Hudson/Lodestar converision it is but a couple of sites were down earlier. All they've said is it's a 1941 Mk IIIA. The new owner has also said she's in remarkable condition. Historic aircraft whichever way you look at it.
Another victory for the Swagman. Having seen one of his avengers up close, I'm bloody imperssed and can't wait till the Boston and now the Hudson come home. Andy, do you have any word on the progress of the Swagman's Wirraway Park? That will be an awesome, awesome facility. Nice bit of history there too by itself. Cheers
No idea, ABMM, I'm out of the loop on matters such as those. Just try to keep up with the relevant stuff. Perhaps you could elaborate. I've heard his goal is to have flying days at his collection/museum. The Boston is still in the States getting a lot of work done. As she hadn't flown for a while and was, again, an executive transport conversion, she needs a fair bit of "rectification"! Story is she's going into Newton VC colours.
He's planning to establish an air park at his property near Beaudesert. I believe it's sort of a similar concept to ol' Kermit's facility in the US. The Swagman was telling me about it at the Wide Bay Airshow and it sounds amazing! It will be a base for all of his warbirds with open days for the public once or twice a year where the average punter will (as of last August's conversation - so may not be gospel after the Wirraway Park opens) be able to take a free joyflight in these historic machines.
What's his background? He started "quietly" with the Avengers but seems to picking the pace up somewhat.
