    Walter Lacy Yea Rogers
    Born: Pewsey, 20 September, 1878
    Died: 10 February, 1948

    Can anyone fill in any details on this England rugby international's DSO and mentions in despatches.

    Gazetted to the RFA 1900 and the Royal Horse Artillery 1901. Lieutenant 1900, Captain 1908
    Oxford University Blue in 1898 and 1900. Lost on both international appearances. Played club rugby for Blackheath. Played against 1905 All Blacks. Also played for the Barbarians and The Army. Served WW1 and mentioned in despatches three times. Awarded DSO 1 January, 1918. Lietenant Colonel commanding 2nd Brigade R.H.A. Served India, 1909-14; commanded 76th. Brigade R.F.A. in France and Italy for 18 months, 2nd battle of Ypres. Attended Rugby School and scored 40 and 76 at Lord's against

    Walter Rogers was born on 20 September 1878

    Played as Forward a for: Rugby School, Oxford University (Blue 1898-1900), The Army, Blackheath, Barbarians, Kent

    Profession: The Army; Lieutenant Gazetted to the Royal Field Artillery 1900 and to the Royal Horse Artillery 1901. Captain 1908. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel 1925.

    War service: Major, Acting Lieutenant Colonel, 132nd Battery, Royal Field Artillery and Royal Horse Artillery, XXXI Brigade, 28th Division; Mentioned in Despatches 3 times, DSO Gazetted 1 January 1918. Eventually promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.

    Remarks: Played for Barbarians: v Penarth (4-5) v Cardiff (0-8) v Swansea (0-23) v Devonport (8-19) in 1904; v Swansea (6-26) v Cardiff (8-5) in 1905. Played for the Officers of the Army v the Officers of the Royal Navy in December 1907 (0-15).

    He died on 10 February 1948.

Educated Rugby School; Trinity College, Oxford, M.A. 2nd Lieutenant R.F.A. 1900; Lieutenant 1901; R.H.A. 1901; Captain 1909; Major 1914; Brevet Lieut.-Col. 1919; Lieut.-Col. 1925; Colonel 1929; served India, 1909-14; European War 1914-19 (D.S.O., despatches thrice, wounded); commanded 76th (Army) Brigade R.F.A. in France and Italy for 18 months, 2nd battle of Ypres, Somme, Arras, Messines and final drive; Mesopotamia 1920-21; Commander R.A., 51st (Highland) Division T.A. 1931-32; Commander R.A. 56th (1st London) Div. T.A. 1932-35; retired pay, 1935.

    Blues Register says the following:-

    Educated at Rugby and Trinity College, Oxford. Played in Oxford Fifteen 1898, 1900. International football, England v. Ireland 1905, v. Wales 1905. Played in Kent Fifteen. Gazetted to the Royal Field Artillery 1900; Lieutenant April 1901; Captain 1909.
