    Hello Nicholas,

John's service records are available online at Ancestry.com. If you are not currently a member of Ancestry, you will need to join in order to view his file.

Unit War Diaries (1914-1922) are held at the National Archives in Kew, London (file ref: WO 95) though I am afraid I do not know if diaries for the RGA are available. Here is a link to the pertinent section of the NA website:

    http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/war-diaries-ww1.htm

Some extra info that might be of interest:

    • John Hairyes (cloth miller) attestation: 30th November 1915.
    • On Home Service from 07/05/1915 to 29/07/1916, then British Expeditionary Force, from 30/07/1916.
    • Wife: Sarah (nee Butler) -married 24/05/1915 at Holbeck, West Riding, Yorks.
    • Son: Jack Hairyes, born 21/09/1915.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    M.
