The Royal Australian Flying Corps were stationed at the small aerodrome in Castle Bromwich it was here they did most of their training before being sent to the front. In Curdworth churchyard there are several graves and a large memorial in memory of those fliers who died tragically at Castle Brom during this period, as it was then part of the Parish of Curdworth. In the church itself, is the propeller of Lieutenant Sydney Woodrow’s aircraft that was placed there after he crashed and died during training at the airfield.
