I remember being on Ascention Island for the 75th anniversary. The Station Warrant Officer bought crates of Wray and Bros Rum, which is 40 percent over proof! It was passed out to the various units but tasted rotten with coke, the mainstay of mixers. However, with a little trial and error, we in the Comcen discovered that it tasted great with a little drop of lime juice! Soon, units were donating their bottles to us, because they could not drink the stuff!

But good luck to the RAF on her 90th birthday, she does not look a day older than 89 years 364 days old!

    Actually Three Anniversaries!

On 1 April 1924, the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Air Force was formed, encompassing those RAF units that normally embarked on aircraft carriers and fighting ships.

What does the 1st of April represent?

    RAF - 1st April 1918
    RAAF - 1st April 1921
    FAA - 1st April 1924

April the first, is the start of the financial year and so makes sense as they could allocate a budget from that date.

In Australia it is July 1st.

Maybe not so in the forces in Oz!

In this 90th year, you'd think the government would commemorate the group of RAF members who suffered the greatest losses - Bomber Command.

Maybe public pressure will move the politicians.
