Here's a picture of something i picked up at a local auction sometime back. Now i know its WW1 but thought you might like to see it as i have not seen one like this before.
Its a local casualty to me who won the MM the year before he died. It needs some restoration which i plan to do when i have the time and then i'm going to donate it to his local church if they want it.

    Take care All

That is an unusual Memorial plaque. Have you discovered any history to it? I see that the LG only lists his name as a being awarded the MM - have you got his NA Medal Card?

All i know Kyt is that it belonged to his wife and she had lived in the next village over from me. I don't have his medal card yet, i really haven't done that much research on him as yet. Isn't it a shame when these get sold out of the family? He was a member of the Berkshire Regt i do know that.

    Take care

Your right about it going to someone who actually cares. The other guy who was bidding against me does have an interest but he has a house and garden full of this stuff (including tanks and other vehicles) and it would of been lost somewhere in amongst the junk. The medal certainly wasn't sold at the same auction or i would of got that as well. It probably got sold many years ago, probably during the depression by a lonely widow.
I will let you know if i find out anymore about him. Thanks for the medal card page, i'll get that ordered.

    Take care

If you're interested it maybe worth asking over on www.britishmedalforum.com - someone may own it or may have a record of its sale - they really do keep pretty good tabs on these things.

    Take care,

It is sad that these do go out of the family. Maybe there weren't any or the closest did not even know the relevance or significance.

Look forward to the rejuvenation and the history one of these days.

I just came across this thread .... what a lovely memorial Mike !

Were you able to find out very much about your soldier ? I'd be more than happy to "give it a go " ( though I realise this is an old post !! )

    Annie :)
